An unfortunate protagonist of the world championship, Ilan Van Wilder returns from Rwanda with a fractured wrist. The Belgian, who was supposed to be Remco Evenepoel's last man, was involved in the crash that characterized the initial stages of the race, tried to chase for over a lap but was ultimately forced to surrender to the pain. Evening examinations confirmed the fracture of his left wrist.

Ilan, bronze medalist in the individual time trial in Kigali, will now return to Belgium to undergo further tests at the Herentals hospital, where a more precise prognosis will be formulated.
