On Saturday, September 27 at 2:00 PM, the First Michele Scarponi Trophy will start from Viale Europa in the center of Castelraimondo (MC), a men's road cycling race for the national junior category, organized by the Asd Avis Frecce Azzurre of Camerino with the patronage of the Municipalities of Castelraimondo and Camerino, the University of Camerino and the Michele Scarponi Foundation, and supported by the contribution of the Elledi company.
The 96.3 km route consists of two circuits: a first undulating one to be covered 5 times of 10.8 km in the territory of Castelraimondo. Then after a 10 km stretch, the group transfers to the final Camerino circuit which develops for 15.6 km with 300 m of elevation to be covered twice. At the 3rd passage on Via Ridolfini, they will turn left to enter the final cobblestone straight with the finish placed in Piazza Cavour in correspondence with the plaque dedicated to Michele Scarponi, which recalls his splendid victory in the Tirreno-Adriatico stage on March 16, 2009. The arrival is expected at 4:15 PM.
Michele's embrace at the Camerino finish line in 2009 will be returned to the Marche champion by the young people participating in the 1st Scarponi Trophy. The event aims to bring attention to a stunning territory, which was severely tested by the 2016 earthquake, and towards road safety and sustainable mobility themes.
In addition to Michele, two young road victims will be remembered, the seventeen-year-olds Matteo Lorenzi and Silvia Piccini, to whom the flying finishes and Mountain Grand Prix have been dedicated.
