Luke Tuckwell signs a professional contract with Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe: the top talent of the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe rookies takes the leap into the WorldTour team.
Tuckwell is considered a stage race specialist and has impressed with excellent results throughout the season. Among other highlights, the 21-year-old Australian secured second place at the prestigious Giro Next Gen, the U23 version of the Giro d'Italia. More recently, he confirmed his abilities with a tenth place at the Tour de l'Avenir, the most important U23 stage race.
"Becoming a professional means a lot to me. Since I was a kid, I've dreamed of racing the Tour de France. Now I've taken a big step towards that goal and couldn't be happier. I want to thank Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe for their continued support and the trust they place in me," Luke Tuckwell said upon signing the contract.
The promotion of the young climber to the WorldTour demonstrates that the large-scale talent development program launched by Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe this winter is already bearing fruit. In its debut season, the U23 team has had a strong sporting impact: in April, Callum Thornley had already signed a WorldTour contract.
Ralph Denk, CEO of Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe, is proud of the project's progress: "Luke has demonstrated his class in the two most important U23 stage races of the year – the Giro Next Gen and the Tour de l'Avenir – and has clearly earned his place in the WorldTour. His path confirms that our development concept is working: we don't just want to develop young cyclists, but also offer them a seamless pathway to the WorldTeam. Luke has the potential to play an important role for us in the future."
