Seasons pass, but the charm of the Golden Cup never fades. The classic youth cycling event, born in 1965, is preparing to celebrate its sixtieth year, offering a new edition marked by impressive numbers. Two weekends of racing, as tradition dictates, will see over 2,800 athletes lined up at the start. The registered participants have precisely reached 2,847.
The opening will be reserved for the Youngest (Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September), followed by the rich weekend (13-14 September) that will feature athletes from the Beginners and Juniors categories, male and female, ready to bring to life a new edition of the Evening Cup, the Pink Cup, and the Golden Cup.
The latter will animate the concluding day, Sunday 14th September, when the finish straight of via Spagolla in Borgo Valsugana will once again become crowded to celebrate the successor of Brandon Fedrizzi from Bolzano, who won last year in the national jersey in the 56th edition.
The event's format is now consolidated, an unmissable appointment for young cyclists and clubs working to develop the youth ranks and tomorrow's champions, called to compete in a race that crowns the sports director of the winner, another "unique" aspect of the event organized by Veloce Club Borgo.
Speaking of champions, many are those who stand out in the event's honor roll, from Giuseppe Saronni, Gianni Bugno, and Ivan Basso to the emerging talents of modern cycling like Alessio Magagnotti (winner in 2023) and Brandon Fedrizzi (last winner in 2024), passing through Diego Ulissi (who scored a double in 2004 and 2005), Sonny Colbrelli, Nicola Conci, and Andrea Bagioli, just to name a few.
The details of the 57th edition will be revealed on Wednesday, September 3rd in Borgo Valsugana during the official presentation (6 PM, at the Municipal Cloister), but already today the organizing committee can be satisfied with the numbers registered by the event's secretariat. On Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September, 1,475 Young Riders will bring to life the 26th Golden Cup, with races starting at 10 AM. The event's headquarters, as always, will be the sports center on via Gozzer in Borgo Valsugana. The first day will see G1, G2, G3, and G4 boys and girls engaged, along with female G5 and G6, while on Sunday it will be the turn of male G5 and G6, with final awards around 2:30 PM.
On Saturday, September 13th, again in Borgo Valsugana, there will be the 25th Pink Cup for Junior Girls (11 AM) and the four races of the 18th Evening Cup for Beginners, males and females (starting at 2 PM). 147 Junior Girls are registered, 498 male Beginners (between first and second year), and 178 Female Beginners.
Finally, on Sunday, September 14th, the 57th Golden Cup for Juniors will start (10:30 AM). At the start, all the best talents in the under-16 category are expected, with a remarkable 549 registered riders.
