As we previously anticipated, the news is now official: Filippo Fiorelli will make his WorldTour debut with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The Sicilian rider has signed a contract with the Dutch formation, which considers him a valuable element for the most challenging races and has secured him a two-year contract. Fiorelli, who is 30 years old, has been racing professionally for six seasons and has always been part of the current VF Group Bardiani CSF Faizan. His only professional victory so far came at the Sibiu Cycling Tour in 2022.
"Filippo is a very interesting rider and we are curious to see what he can bring to our team," explains racing department head Grischa Niermann. "We believe he will be able to best support Matthew Brennan in sprint preparation. He has also expressed interest in exploring the Spring Classics. His role will be different and more supportive compared to what he is used to. We are convinced that he is still able to progress in that role and will fit perfectly into our team."
And Fiorelli himself is enthusiastic about joining Team Visma | Lease a Bike: "This is one of the best teams in the world, so I am obviously very happy to be part of it. I have seen how this team works, with all the training structures and internal expertise. I can't wait to start working with them and see how much room for growth I still have. My role will be different from before, but I'm looking forward to becoming part of one of the best teams in the world in a support role".
