Anton Schiffer is joining the World Tour with Team Visma | Lease a Bike with a contract until 2027. The 25-year-old German cyclist will join the team starting October 1st and will make his debut with the Dutch team already this season.
Schiffer turned his attention to cycling relatively late, having previously competed as a triathlete in his youth. In 2022, he decided to fully dedicate himself to cycling and in 2023 joined the continental team Bike Aid. There, alternating his cycling career with coaching activities for cyclists and triathletes, he managed to grow rapidly as a rider. This season, he has shown consistent performance and achieved good results, winning second place in the overall classification at Tour of Hellas and fourth at Sibiu Cycling Tour, where he also secured his first professional victory.
"This step might surprise the outside world, but considering how this season has developed, it doesn't surprise me that much," Schiffer said enthusiastically about his move to the WorldTour. "I was already in contact with the team since the Tour of Hellas, and I'm happy that all of this ultimately led to my first WorldTour contract. I can't wait to truly experience life as a professional athlete for the first time in my career. Being able to focus completely on my sport, combined with expert support, using the Athlete's FoodCoach, equipment, and the team's experience are all things I hope will help me grow as a rider."
Grischa Niermann, the team's racing director, confirmed that Team Visma | Lease a Bike sees significant development potential in Schiffer. "We believe he still has a lot of room for improvement in all areas. Based on our conversations, we know he is truly a good fit for us. Despite racing for a small team, he has already managed to secure his first professional victory. This clearly demonstrates that he has real talent. We can't wait to work with him and are happy to have him with us starting from October."
