On Saturday, August 3rd, in Piacenza, during the Italian MTB Championships XCE (Cross Country Eliminator) specialty, the three Team Guerrini athletes shone in both Open categories (combining Junior, Under 23, and Elite), securing a prestigious haul: a silver medal, a bronze medal, and three finals reached.
In the men's sector, Fabiano Bonzanini showed extraordinary form, obtaining the third-best time in the time trial and competing in two impeccable heats in the quarter and semi-finals. In the final race, Bonzanini fought until the last 50 meters for the podium, finishing fourth overall, but first among the Junior competitors: a result of great value.
In the women's field, Elisa Ferri and Nicole Azzetti dominated from the qualifications, clocking the first and third times respectively. Both then won their quarter-final heats. In the semi-final, Azzetti confirmed her superiority, while Ferri - victim of a fall - demonstrated character with a spectacular comeback that secured her second place behind elite champion Gaia Tormena.
In the decisive race, Nicole Azzetti started strongly, leading for a long time before yielding only in the finale to the multi-titled Tormena, conquering a well-deserved silver. Behind her, Elisa Ferri remained in fourth position until the final stretch, where with a masterful overtake in the penultimate curve, she secured the bronze medal.
On Sunday, August 4th, Team Guerrini Cycling athletes transferred to Vaprio D'Agogna (NO) to participate in the 112 km road race for the third edition of the Pippo Fallarini Memorial, which saw 143 participants at the start (98 classified). The race was held on a circuit of about 19 km to be repeated six times.
The race's challenging nature was due to the circuit's characteristics, featuring narrow roads, strong winds, and a mountain grand prix at Madonna delle Vigne to be repeated at each passage. From the early stages, the race experienced very exciting moments with continuous escape attempts; the decisive move developed during the fifth lap when six competitors broke away, gaining a slight advantage.
Among these competitors was Team Guerrini's standard-bearer, Cristian Grasso, particularly active from the start. During the last lap, the breakaway group reached a maximum advantage of 25" and resisted the group's fierce reaction until the finish line. In the final sprint, Cristian secured a brilliant 5th overall position, testament to his excellent form.
Fabiano Bonzanini narrowly missed a placement in the group sprint. Adriano Ferreira was less fortunate, puncturing near the last kilometer's banner.
