
Another road tragedy on this early August Sunday. Three cyclists were run over and killed while traveling on Provincial Road 231 near Terlizzi, in the Bari area. The tragedy occurred around 8:30 AM. The victims, Sandro Abruzzese, Vincenzo Mantovani, and Antonio Porro, according to the Agi agency, were members of the Ciclo Avis of Andria and were cycling on the road's edge when a Lancia Delta in transit hit them head-on.
According to initial reconstruction, the vehicle was heading towards Bari and the driver had lost control for reasons not yet determined, hitting a group of 5 cyclists. Two of them managed to avoid the car, while for the others there was nothing that could be done.
After the impact, the car crashed into the guardrail and the driver was injured: he was the one who called for help. At the scene arrived carabinieri, 118 emergency personnel, and local police officers from Terlizzi and Ruvo di Puglia. Emergency service operators from Pissta Servizi Emergenziali intervened to restore road safety.
The Trani Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation for multiple vehicular manslaughter. The driver involved in the crash is under investigation. The car and vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.
