A son of a cycling legend on the famous French peak of La Planche des Belles Fille. The second stage of the Tour Alsace was won by Spaniard Markel Beloki, son of Joseba Beloki, three-time Tour de France podium finisher (3rd in 2000 and 2001, 2nd in 2002) and winner of a Vuelta a España stage. The young Markel, 20 years old from EF Education EasyPost, achieved his first victory by breaking away and finishing 20" ahead of Colombian Santiago Umba from XDS Astana Development Team and Belgian Kamiel Eeman from Lotto Development Team. In the top-ten is Luca Covili, from Modena, riding for VF Group Bardiani CSF Faizan, who placed seventh. Beloki is also the new general classification leader.
