The Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino is making its bet for the second part of the season. In recent days, the Trentino-based team based in Lavis has signed Jacopo Fanton, who will make his absolute debut in competitive cycling in the coming weeks.
Born in 2006 in Pozza di Fassa, Fanton has distinguished himself recently in winter triathlon - a discipline that combines skating cross-country skiing, MTB, and running - by first becoming the Italian junior champion in Cogne in January, and then also world champion in his category in February, again in Cogne. In winter duathlon, which does not include the MTB stage, he won two silver medals.
"I've always been good at both MTB and road cycling, but never really competitively," Fanton explains. "In the last year, I started seriously engaging in winter triathlon, and the results were immediately exciting. I don't intend to abandon this sport, but I'm truly grateful to Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino for the opportunity to test myself in road cycling, the discipline I believe I'm most suited for."
Jacopo is the brother of Giovanni Fanton, an athlete with the Continental Mg.K Vis team, and it is "thanks to him that my passion for cycling has grown considerably." The young Trentino athlete, who would officially be in his first U23 year, will also test himself occasionally with juniors, to get familiar with the rhythms and dynamics of cycling.
Fanton's future is still to be written, as he recently graduated from Scientific High School and will start university in Medicine in September. "I'm waiting to understand which University I'll enter and in which city I'll have to move. This naturally also depends on my sporting future. For now, however, I want to give my best for this experience with Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino, I have no expectations but hope to have fun."
"He is a guy who certainly has interesting numbers," added the team manager of the Trentino squad, Alessandro Coden. "After all, he became a world champion in winter triathlon in a very short time, so we want to see what margins of improvement he has in cycling. He is definitely an excellent athlete, we want to put him to the test, we will give him space and means to do his best."
