The Team F.lli Giorgi is bowing out. On the threshold of thirty years of activity (first affiliation in 1996), the famous junior category team is closing down at the end of the season.
Another piece of history writes its final chapter. Carlo Giorgi is among those who have truly given so much to cycling, spending a lot and offering many young people the opportunity to do sports and grow as individuals. He has had the immense satisfaction of seeing so many riders achieve important and international successes who subsequently took flight towards professional cycling.
"Forty competitive seasons are truly many - Carlo Giorgi explained in tuttoBICI of July -: I started with the Polisportiva Albano Sant'Alessandra in the Eighties, then I founded the Team F.lli Giorgi. I, who started as a rider with modest profits, perfectly understand the sacrifices of athletes and take Mathias Vacek as an example, who at the recent Giro d'Italia demonstrated how determination and good will have led him to achieve his goal. He is just the latest example of the many satisfactions I have collected over these years: we're talking about 557 total victories so far, many more on the track and off-road, a European title, world and Italian titles on the track: I feel satisfied and can think of closing this chapter, even though my passion will remain the same. The riders have already been warned, I know they will end the season collecting more successes. It's time for me to say goodbye to competitive cycling, to the riders, technicians, enthusiasts and volunteers who over the years have always been close to my team. My decision is serene and convinced, and I will certainly continue to organize the race that remembers my brother Vittorio. My only regret is not having managed to win the Italian road championship, not even the year I organized it, but that's okay. And of course, good season to everyone".
