Matilde Carretta is the new Italian time trial champion in the women's junior category. The Treviso native from Caser, born in 2010 and riding for Acd Valvsaone in her first year in the category, won the title in San Vito al Tagliamento (the race started from Morsano al Tagliamento) where the national time trial championships for all categories began this morning.
Already a national road champion among first-year beginners in Boario Terme in 2023, Carretta covered the 13.5 km course in 19'18"37, beating Maddalena Pascut (UC Giorgione) by 6" and Jolanda Sambi (Calderara STM Riduttori) by 8". Following are Dollaku at 17", Mucciarini at 26", Marinini at 29", Peruta at 30", De Angelis at 51", Bonassi at 55" and Sara Enzo at 1'04".
Matilde Carretta came to cycling to emulate her brother Sebastiano, 10 years her senior (who stopped at the junior level), after a brief stint with artistic skating. Her first pedal strokes were with Libertas Scorzè, then riding with SC Dopla from Treviso, GS Mosole and Young Team Arcade. She attends the Art High School in Treviso. Besides Sebastiano, Matilde has an older sister Ludovica, who along with dad Guglielmo and mom Orietta form the Carretta family.
