With Marco Pastonesi's permission, we also send our greetings to the Paduan native of Rubàno (we specify the tonic accent to avoid misunderstandings), now almost a DOC Milanese, wishing Dino Zandegù a happy 85th birthday today.
However, we collect and propose to the attention of the media outlets involved, a heartfelt, very, very warm appeal, as is his nature, from Pier Luigi Basso of Cittadella, supporter and all-round animator of Marino Basso's fans. Pier Luigi is also so by family tradition, given that his father, the esteemed Dr. Pietro of Cittadella, was the personal physician of the 1972 Gap World Champion.
The appeal is addressed by the sender to media of various types - print, television, digital - to at least remember the 80th birthday of Marino Basso, born in Rettergole di Caldogno (Vicenza), on June 1st, 1945, the same municipality as Roberto Baggio, a few kilometers from Rubano.
A rivalry that has lasted and continues, sportingly, for a lifetime, marked by accusations and counter-accusations, one hundred percent (or almost) true, to paraphrase the title of Zandegù and Pastonesi's book.
But the numbers, in their coldness, are mutely eloquent and, at the birthday milestone, Zandegù always and in any case beats Marino Basso by a day.
Best wishes for many more years and birthdays, regardless, to both of them.
