A day of celebration, togetherness, sport, and brilliant sunshine marked the 54th edition of Novelli, which confirms itself as the queen of Granfondo with its unique atmosphere. Triumphing on the long route was Alberto Nardin, arriving solo after a breakaway that started 80 kilometers from the finish; in the women's category, Roberta Bussone scored a great victory as she managed to cross the finish line first in her debut on the Cesenatico course. On the medium route, the men's finish was a sprint with Nicolo Tamussi's victory over Matteo Fontanelli and Rossano Mauti, while in the women's category, Giulia Medri won, moved to tears at the finish.
Words from the winners and Alejandro Valverde
"I managed to break away when there were still 80 kilometers to go and didn't realize the gap from the chasers. It was a great effort but also an immense satisfaction," commented Alberto Nardin, winner of the long route.
"This was my first Granfondo participation and at the start of the race I was initially overwhelmed. Then in the second part of the race, I was practically alone and I'm extremely happy and honored by this victory," said Roberta Bussone, winner of the long route.
"It went well, I managed to take the lead in the sprint and maintain my position, which was crucial. I feel great even after this effort, now I'll call my mom to celebrate," commented Nicolò Tamussi, winner of the medium route.
"I dedicate this victory to my dad, whom I thought about while I was at Pieve di Rivoschio, and thinking about it still moves me. I've made a big quality leap from last year and I'm extremely happy," said Giulia Medri, winner of the medium route.
"My first Nove Colli was very beautiful and I'm happy to have taken part in this event that is much more than a cycling race. There's a wonderful atmosphere, both in the days before and during the route, and the course is very evocative," said Alejandro Valverde.
The #NoveColli4Children
A solidarity result was achieved for #NoveColli4Children with Aru and Cattaneo managing to finish under 4 hours and Chiara Ciuffini arriving shortly after, ahead of Christian Zorzi. Even two riders - out of 41 total - who registered with the Dream Team formula (with an increased fee) finished under 4 hours. Thanks to the work of these special domestiques, the charity challenge in favor of IOR was surpassed.
The last finisher
And Nove Colli is special because it rewards not only the first but especially the last, or rather the last to arrive. And there was a celebration with music, applause, toasts, flowers, and Romagna food gifts for Luca Coluzzi - born in 1981 - who crossed the finish line at 17:27. The rider from Tana Bike Anagni ASD comes from Segni in the province of Rome.
