The Rotary Club Ravenna Galla Placidia hosted Raffaele Babini, a cycling race director for the most important sporting competitions and certainly one of the most established figures in the national and international landscape. The evening was introduced by the Club's president, Oriella Mingozzi, and was an opportunity to present the distinguished guest. Babini is part of the RCS Sport Team and has directed races such as Giro d'Italia, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo, Trento Europeans, Imola World Championships, Dubai Tour and Abu-Dhabi Tour.
During the evening, Babini illustrated how to manage a race, engaging participants who greatly appreciated his presentation, especially because he answered many of their curiosities at the end. "When you see cyclists during a Paris-Roubaix or a World Championship, you enjoy the moment of their passage but don't think about the multiple professional figures managing everything before, during, and after the race," he confessed.
He added: "The race director and organization are responsible for ensuring the safety and success of the event. Today, moreover, with the changed road layout and urban infrastructure, with roundabouts and channelizations, multiple difficulties have been added to manage. A cycling race is certainly a competition, but at the same time represents an itinerary through the beauties of territories and can serve tourism marketing purposes. These are aspects on which it would be appropriate to reflect also with local territory representatives and tourism professionals to develop adequate promotional policies".
