The CAS, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, has rejected the appeal filed by Miguel Ángel López against the International Cycling Union and thus confirmed the four-year suspension imposed on the Colombian rider for violating anti-doping regulations.
The CAS confirmed that López committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) for the use and possession of a prohibited substance (Menotropin), during the 2022 Giro d'Italia and confirmed the four-year suspension imposed by the UCI Anti-Doping Tribunal, a sanction that began on July 25, 2023, and is set to conclude on July 24, 2027.
The UCI recalls that the disciplinary proceedings were initiated following an investigation conducted by the ITA based on evidence obtained by the Spanish Civil Guard and the Spanish Anti-Doping Organization (CELAD) in the so-called "Ilex" operation involving Dr. Marcos Maynar.
The UCI and ITA welcome this ruling, which reflects their commitment to protecting the integrity of cycling. The CAS award will be published in due course on the UCI website.
