It was a great cycling celebration that took place at the Royal Palace of Pieve del Grappa, in the province of Treviso, for the official presentation of the Nations Cup stage scheduled from June 6th to 8th and for the international race set for July 12th, which are sponsored by the Veneto Region and promoted by the International Cycling Union and the Federation. Both events represent the highest level of junior cycling worldwide and will both be valid for the 13th F.W.R. BARON Grand Prix, which is an integral part of the Junior Youth Project, conceived by Rino Baron and his family in 2013 to promote young Italian talents and offer them a high-level competition.
The presentation ceremony had among its honored guests the cycling champions Samuele Manfredi and Beatrice Cal. Over 80 invited guests attended the presentation, and the most anticipated character was the legendary "patron" Remo Mosole. The event was presented by Giada Borgato, accompanied by miss Francesca Selva and Alice Guerra. Among the speakers were the Mayor of Pieve del Grappa, Annalisa Rampin, and of Castelcucco and President of the Mountain Union, Paolo Mares, the Councilor of San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Andrea Scremin, and of Fonte, Luca Baccin, the Sports Assessor of San Martino di Lupari, Denis Cecchetto, the Vice President of the Fci, Stefano Bandolin, the President of Veneto Cycling Federation, Mario Guerretta, the National Team Manager, Roberto Amadio, the Veneto Region Councilor, Alberto Villanova, the former rider and current UAE Sports Director, Marco Marcato. The mascots Angelo and Liam Baron were present. During the meeting, thanks were extended to the "Fattoria Baron" Company and the "Hotel Canova".
Mosole appeared quite emotional when Baron emphasized that the time trial stage that will take place at Lago Le Bandie in Lovadina di Spresiano (Treviso) was realized thanks to the great relationship between his family and Baron's, particularly with Remo Mosole's son, who, as Baron specified, had expressed the desire to do something for his father who has given so much to cycling. It was a beautiful moment when I handed Remo Mosole the medal that will also be given to the time trial winner. "Remo was very moved because he didn't expect it - Baron pointed out - and he kept it around his neck all evening. It was also nice because we presented a beautiful video illustrating all the locations involved in the races".
The Nations Cup stage, which will see the participation of 21 nations and 8 Regional Committees, was realized with the collaboration of the Municipalities of Pieve del Grappa, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Fonte, Castelcucco, Spresiano, and Remo Mosole's family; while the July 12th event was made possible thanks to the availability of the Municipal Administrations of San Martino di Lupari, Pieve del Grappa, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Fonte, Borso del Grappa, Cima Monte Grappa, the Grappa Mountain Union, and the Management of the Military Memorial in the same location. The Nations Cup event will be structured in three stages, to be held on June 7th and 8th. Commitments that were also rewarded by the Uci, which confirmed the assignment of organizing the Uci Junior Nations Cup 2025, after the success recorded in the 2024 edition.
THE RACE. The first day of races will feature an intense double race: in the morning, an individual time trial set on a 2.5 km course within the beautiful setting of Lago Le Bandie. Once a gravel quarry, this inhospitable place has been transformed thanks to Remo Mosole's foresight into a natural oasis, not only a unique example of environmental redevelopment but also an ideal location for high-level sporting events. In fact, the Cyclocross World Championships were held here in 2008 and, in 2023, the start of the Gravel World Championship won by Matej Mohoric. The time trial course, undulating and technical, partially follows the lake shore and features a 40-meter climb with slopes up to 10%, providing a first significant test for the young talents in the race.
In the afternoon, the stage will start and end in San Zenone degli Ezzelini on a 117 km course. A route that, on paper, seems to favor a sprint finish, but the extremely high level of participants will make the race unpredictable and full of twists.
Sunday, June 8th will be the 2nd stage, which will start from Fonte and conclude in San Liberale di Pieve del Grappa, crossing the splendid areas of the Mountain Union for a total of 114 km. It will be a decisive stage, with a spectacular and unprecedented finale: in the last 3 km, the road will climb from Fietta, at 400 meters altitude, to San Liberale, at 602 meters, with slopes between 6-8%, with peaks up to 12%. A challenging climb, capable of overturning the rankings and delivering an absolutely valuable winner to the Junior Nations Cup 2025. On this occasion, the athletes will wear jerseys displaying the logos of the involved municipalities, including those of Lago Le Bandie, San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Fonte, Pieve del Grappa, Castelcucco, and San Liberale. The general classification leader will wear the F.W.R. BARON jersey and receive a special prize: a trophy and a racing bike made by Wilier Triestina.
On Saturday, July 12th, the athletes will be called to challenge each other in a race with a legendary flavor: the 13th National F.W.R. BARON Grand Prix-City of San Martino di Lupari-Cima Monte Grappa. Designed on a course that will test even the most prepared cyclists: 84.5 km with a final climb including 29 hairpin turns, an average slope of 7-8% and sections reaching 14%, up to the 1,730 m altitude of Cima Monte Grappa. A finish line located in a unique place in the world, the Military Memorial symbol of the Great War, which preserves the memory of the fallen. At the end of the race, the top three finishers, together with the mayors of the involved municipalities, will lay flower bouquets at the Military Memorial in honor of the fallen, because, as Rino Baron often likes to repeat, "In Sport and in life, no victory has more value than loyalty and Honor".
