The successful outcome of a cycling race cannot overlook the safety that can be guaranteed to the competing athletes. The Libertas Laives staff has paid great attention to this aspect from the start, carefully attending to every detail in view of the important two-day event of the Italian Esordiente and Allievi National Championships, which on Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th will see 800 male and female athletes aged 13 to 16 compete on the roads of Laives for the six national champion jerseys at stake. The race director and safety coordinator Roberto Missiaggia and the logistics and services manager Fabio D'Eramo, in close contact with the commander of the Local Police Roland Pichler, have developed a detailed plan with 68 control points distributed along the race route.
«Safety is a crucial aspect in the sport of cycling – explain the organizers – for this reason we have sought to guarantee total and maximum coverage of every junction and intersection. There will be 77 people deployed along the route».
A number that, in total, will rise to 100, taking into account all other safety personnel, with particular attention to the service provided by motorcycle escorts (10 employed for technical support). As for medical assistance, three ambulances with a resuscitation doctor will be operational.
Also noteworthy is the support provided by the Municipality of Laives, which has worked to polish the entire race circuit, with great care devoted to the road surface.
An army of over 150 volunteers in the field
Having mentioned the substantial resources deployed for safety, the total number of volunteers engaged in the two-day national event will exceed 150. «To them, from now on, goes our most heartfelt “thank you"» emphasizes the president of the organizing society Paolo Endrizzi. There are many organizations involved, which have responded with their convinced «yes» to ensure the successful outcome of the event. An event that will offer an important showcase to Laives, to the territory of Lower Adige and to all of South Tyrol. At the national championships, each with their respective personnel, will be operational: the Emergency Radio Operators Group, the National Carabinieri Association, the Volunteer Fire Brigade of Laives and San Giacomo, the Carnival Group of Laives, the Carabinieri station of Laives and the Local Police of the municipality of Laives, as well as the local Red Cross. Also fundamental is the support offered by the National Alpine Association of Laives, Bronzolo, Egna, Oltrisarco, Salorno, San Maurizio, Termeno and Terlano. Timing and photo finish, finally, will be handled by the proven staff of the Ficr of Bolzano.
All these organizations will pedal alongside the young talents of Italian cycling, who in the coming weekend will experience something they will surely keep in their memory album
