The UCI continues its commitment to shaping the future of cycling and announces the establishment of a steering committee tasked with guiding the next phase of reform in professional road cycling, for both men and women. To support this activity, the UCI has appointed Deloitte, a global professional services firm, as strategic consultant.
This new step builds on the "Future of Road Cycling" consultation launched by the UCI in February 2026, whose results were published on September 24. The numerous contributions received from the entire cycling community have highlighted broad consensus on key issues affecting the discipline, particularly safety, financial equity among teams, the calendar, and commercial and media rights.
The steering committee brings together, in addition to the UCI President, the General Director, and the President of the Professional Cycling Council (PCC), the presidents of the representative associations of organizers (AIOCC), teams (AIGCP), and riders (CPA), elected representatives of the UCI Athletes' Commission, and representatives of major events and teams in professional men's and women's road cycling.
The steering committee held its first meeting on October 6 in Geneva, Switzerland. Two further meetings are scheduled before a progress update, which will be held during the seminar dedicated to the UCI Women's WorldTour and UCI WorldTour, scheduled for December 9 and 10 in Benidorm, Spain. At that time, the general lines of the reform will be presented, with the possibility of introducing the first measures starting from the 2029 season.
Experts from Deloitte's global sports division – which has already successfully supported strategic reform processes in various sports disciplines – will provide the UCI with advice for developing its vision and related roadmap. They participated as consultants at the steering committee's first meeting in Geneva and will support the committee's work in the coming weeks. UCI President David Lappartient stated: "The consultation has shown that the various components of cycling share a common vision on the main challenges our sport must face. It is now up to us to transform this consensus into concrete proposals. The establishment of this steering committee, which brings together all stakeholders, combined with Deloitte's expertise, provides us with the tools to proceed methodically and in a spirit of constant dialogue".
