Do you feel like pedaling even in winter and want to hunt for a world title? There's big news coming: UCI and MyWhoosh announce the inaugural edition of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for Junior and Master categories, extending for the first time the UCI cycling esports program beyond the Elite category.
Organized and hosted on the MyWhoosh platform, the Championships will take place remotely on December 12, 2026, offering eligible Junior and Master riders the opportunity to represent their National Federations and compete for UCI world titles. Participants must be in possession of a valid license or membership issued by their respective National Federation – including any required UCI ID – and meet the eligibility requirements and verification procedures. The Junior competition is reserved for riders aged 17 and 18, while the Masters Championships start from age 40 and are divided into five-year age brackets. A minimum of 10 verified starters per category will be required for the assignment of a UCI world title.
Riders between the Junior and Masters categories (aged 19 to 39) do not participate in this event, but rather in the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships program for the Elite category.
The new Championships reflect the continued growth of cycling esports and create an opportunity for high-level international competition for a broader range of riders.
UCI President David Lappartient stated: "Cycling esports has grown incredibly over the past few years and continues to thrive. After five highly successful editions of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for the Elite category, I am pleased to now offer Junior and Masters riders the opportunity to win the rainbow jersey as UCI World Champion in this discipline, which is capable of bringing together people from every continent, age, and skill level".
Matt Smithson, Director of Esports & Game Operations at MyWhoosh, stated: "Launching the first UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for Junior and Masters categories represents an important step in opening high-level esports competitions to a greater number of riders. It offers Junior and age-category athletes a concrete opportunity to represent their National Federations, compete for an official UCI world title, and experience the same high standards of racing and verification that we guarantee at the Elite level. We want these Championships to be competitive and accessible to riders from around the world; we look forward to welcoming a new generation of athletes to the MyWhoosh platform".
A single-day event that will take place entirely remotely
Riders in each category will compete in a road race with a mass finish (First Across The Line format); the final standings will be determined by finishing positions, once performance verification procedures have been completed and approved by the UCI.
Participants will race on a virtual reproduction, created by MyWhoosh, of the UCI Road World Championships circuit in Montreal 2026. The virtual course is 13.3 km long with 247 meters of elevation gain per lap, characterized by short repeated climbs, rolling sections, and a fast final straightaway. Cyclists in the Junior and Masters categories aged 60 and over will complete two laps, for a total distance of 26.6 km. Cyclists in the Masters categories aged 40 to 59 will complete three laps, for a total distance of 39.9 km.
UCI World Championships Standards
Cyclists will race remotely using approved equipment and verified MyWhoosh accounts. They must be in possession of a valid license or membership issued by their National Federation, including any required UCI ID, and be eligible to represent that nation according to current regulations. It is mandatory to use a verified MyWhoosh account, complete the "Power Passport Test" and the pre-event verification procedure, use approved equipment, and ensure dual power registration.
To participate, cyclists must also have completed three events from the MyWhoosh Sunday Race Club (SRC) circuit by December 1, 2026.
The verified MyWhoosh esports environment is required, which includes:
Review of race and training history
- Verification of rider height and weight
- Approved equipment check
- Real-time monitoring of dual power, cadence, and heart rate
- Streaming and identity verification
- Post-race comparison of primary and secondary power data
- Additional testing or verification, if required
Technical inquiries can be sent to: racecontrol@mywhoosh.com
All results will remain provisional until performance verification is completed by MyWhoosh and the standings are approved by the UCI and the designated International Commissaire.
Riders will also be required to comply with the UCI Cycling Esports Regulations, the current MyWhoosh Cycling Esports rules and regulations, and all applicable anti-doping requirements.
Support for Riders and National Federations
MyWhoosh collaborates with National Federations to support riders in preparation for the Championships through training rides and trial events, designed to help participants familiarize themselves with the platform and its racing dynamics.
National Federations will also be able to collaborate with MyWhoosh in organizing branded group rides (community rides) and promotional activities aimed at encouraging participation and the continued development of cycling esports.
Final confirmation of categories, start times, registration details, and instructions for riders will be communicated to National Federations and participants before the event.
The UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for Junior and Masters categories will take place one week after the Elite Final of the 2026 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, scheduled for December 5, 2026.
