A sprint-like move, even though in this case Roberto Pella, former president of the League but still an Honourable Member of Parliament, vice-president of Anci and mayor of Valdengo, is proposing his community as the host for the Italian time trial championships for the junior and youth men and women categories, under 23 men and elite women. This is clearly not just hearsay, but an official statement giving voice to Pella's proposal. "As cycling enthusiasts well know, cycling at all levels – it reads – is a passion, even before being a sport. Given that, to date, the Italian time trial championships have not yet been organized in the junior and youth men and women categories, under 23 men and elite women with our super Piedmontese champion Elisa Longo Borghini, considering our interest in supporting the young athletes who should have and wanted to participate, also given the recent successes achieved at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada and at the Europeans in Slovenia, the municipal administration of Valdengo makes its availability known to organize the Italian Championships in the coming two weeks.
Valdengo has always been the "Land of Cycling": it has been organizing multiple races for over 30 years starting from the youngest and youth categories in collaboration with the Ucab Biella Sports Association, up to being the starting municipality of the Giro d'Italia in 2014 and 2017, continuing to support its vocation towards cycling. Since no institution has made itself available for the organization within less than 15 days, we have communicated today to the president of Visit Piedmont, to whom the Italian Cycling Federation has delegated the search for a municipality available to organize the Italian time trial championships in Piedmont, our availability to host the six events.
Although until a few months ago I particularly followed professional cycling, the municipal administration of Valdengo that I lead has always been committed to supporting and developing the athletes of the future, so that they can wear the tricolour jersey, practice sport, and pursue their passion. I thank the President of the Province Emanuele Ramella Pralungo and my fellow mayors of Vigliano Biellese, Cristina Vazzoler, Cerreto Quaregna, Katia Giordani and Candelo, Paolo Gelone for having shared with us, in less than half a day, this authoritative candidacy of ours. An enormous and essential thanks goes to the Police Headquarters, the Prefect's Office and the Province of Biella, and particularly to their officials, for their availability to work together, a task made more difficult by the fact that there are very few days left until the date, as well as to Ucab Biella and its President Filippo Borrione for the sporting side".
