"I am happy and proud to have the opportunity to represent refugees from all over the world". Yesterday afternoon, Amir Arsalan Amsari posted a photo of his race jersey with number 184 that he is honoring in the best way. One might say, a classic early breakaway, in fact among the 16 men roaming around there are cyclists for whom the world championship is traditionally a stage to exploit, beyond one fact: the Cypriot Militiadis and the Panamanian Jurado share the action with a green jersey from the Tour de France, Biniam Girmay who together with his compatriot Mulubrhan definitely has the task of keeping the honor of the Eritreans "Red Sea Camels" high.
Amir seized his chance: twenty-seven years old, native of Mashhad, Iran, he wore Afghanistan's colors until 2022 but already in 2015 he arrived as a refugee in Sweden in his forced migration journey. He rebuilt a daily life denied by Taliban violence, without giving up that bicycle which in 2024 gave him the satisfaction of participating in the Paris Olympic Games. In 2023 in Glasgow he had for the first time experienced a world championship, he who in Sweden also boasts a fourth place at the national time trial championships in 2026.
Amsari is living his special day, because after more than 100 km as a fugitive, at 47 kilometers per hour, the first passage across the finish line takes on the contours of a resilient challenge already rewarded now.
