Only three of the nine riders who have won at least one stage at the 2026 Vuelta a España had already collected victories in their careers at the Grand Tours. In the second week, Belgian Van Aert joined Slovenian Pogacar and Spaniard Mas, thus reaching a total of 16: one at the Giro d'Italia, ten at the Tour de France and five at the Vuelta itself.
Enric Mas has held the red jersey for the eighth consecutive day. The last Spanish rider to lead the general classification for such a long period was Alberto Contador, who wore the leader's jersey for 12 stages in 2014, an edition he concluded with the final victory.
There are 12 placements by Italian riders among the top ten in the stages contested so far, of which 5 belong to Alessandro Romele. Two stage podiums: Albanese's 3rd place at Roquetes and Romele's 2nd place at Cordoba.
With the partial victories of Norwegian Leknessund, Frenchmen Coquard and Tronchon, Spaniard Mas and young Slovenian Omrzel, 61 cyclists have now achieved victories in the 2026 World Tour races. Slovenia leads the nations standings with 23 wins, followed just one point behind by Belgium. Italy ranks fifth in this special classification with 15 victories in races of the main UCI circuit.
