Another tragedy, another life cut short, another cyclist victim of an accident on the roads of Trentino. It happened in the early afternoon today in Lavis, along the provincial road that crosses the Pressano hill. A 14-year-old girl - Adele Cobelli, athlete of the Asd Bike Movement Trentino Erbe, competing in the Allieve category particularly in off-road - resident of the town itself, lost her life after being involved in a serious accident while riding her bicycle.

The alarm was raised a few minutes before 1 PM on a stretch of road leading towards the farmhouses of the hamlet. From what has emerged so far, the girl was riding her bicycle downhill when she was hit head-on by a car traveling uphill driven by a young resident of the area. The impact was violent: the young woman was thrown beyond the guardrail and suffered serious injuries. According to the initial reconstructions by investigators, still under investigation, the car traveling in the opposite direction would have crossed into the other lane and struck the girl's bicycle. The impact was extremely violent and Adele Cobelli was thrown beyond the guardrail that runs along the roadway, dying instantly.

The emergency services responded very quickly with an ambulance, helicopter, volunteer firefighters from Lavis and local police officers: unfortunately for the girl there was nothing that could be done and death was confirmed directly at the scene of the accident.

A new tragedy that brings to mind other similar incidents, such as those that cost the lives of Matteo Lorenzi (May 2024) and Sara Piffer (January 2025).

VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER. The Trento Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation file for vehicular manslaughter following the death of Adele Cobelli, the 14-year-old cyclist who died on Saturday along provincial road 131 in Pressano, a hamlet of Lavis.

FEDERATION. The Italian Cycling Federation stands with the family of Adele Cobelli, with Asd Bike Movement Trentino Erbe, with her teammates and the entire cycling community, sharing the pain for a loss that deeply affects the entire movement. It has been decided that tomorrow a minute of silence will be observed before the start of all competitions included in the federation calendar.

THE TRENTINO COMMITTEE. «Our first thought goes to the family, expressing our closeness and solidarity». These are the first words of the president of the Autonomous Provincial Committee of Trento of Federciclismo Renato Beber following the news of the tragic death of young cyclist Adele Cobelli: the class of 2011 resident in Masi di Sorni, registered for the Bike Movement team, was struck down and killed on the roads of Pressano, near her home, during a training ride.

«We are facing another tragedy – adds Beber -. We had just come out of two dramas, the deaths of Matteo Lorenzi, in 2024, and Sara Piffer, at the beginning of 2025. Now another blow, another life cut short. Adele was an athlete of our mountain bike Representative team, a girl we knew well and whom we had the opportunity to appreciate, also for her results. Our movement is hit hard once again: we want to come together around the pain of the family and the sports association to which the girl belonged».

The Trentino Committee of Federciclismo is carrying out with conviction campaigns in favor of cyclist safety on the road. «We organize events, we are asking for new structures, which are needed and necessary – Beber clarifies -. They are even more so, however, the behaviors and sense of responsibility that everyone must have when they get on a road».

On what level must we act? «From those responsible for making decisions on this matter - Beber replies - we expect actions on three levels: that of culture, starting from schools. That of structures, which are essential for practicing sports safely. And finally that of enforcement, with serious measures against those who engage in certain behaviors on the roads».

The Italian Cycling Federation has arranged for a minute of silence to be observed before the start of all races scheduled for Sunday, June 21. Among these are the Italian junior championships in Sora (Frosinone), where the Trentino Representative team will also compete, racing with a black armband.

The Trentino Committee, in agreement with the technical director of the mountain bike sector Tony Longo, has also arranged for the cancellation of the technical training session that had been scheduled for Monday, June 22 in Rovereto.
