The breakaway came in the fourth stage of the Tour de Gyeongnam 2026. The victory at the Namhae finish line was claimed by Timofei Ivanov (Wheeltop Rotor Chengdu Team), one of five protagonists of the action that characterized today's stage from the very start.

Breaking away together with Jaebin Yun (Roojai Insurance Winspace), teammate Andrei Stepanov, Keito Kamiya (Aisan Racing Team) and Noah Blannin (CCACHE x BODYWRAP) after approximately three kilometers from the official start, the Russian constructively fueled the attempt, allowing the quintet to remain in contention until the final stages. When, after remaining in the company of Yun alone 5 kilometers from the finish, at 4,000 meters from the line, on the steep slopes of the penultimate climb of the day, he managed to break away solo toward his first career victory.

Behind him, the peloton (which had maintained a gap of over 5 minutes for a long time) managed to close in but failed to successfully catch the breakaway riders, with Tommaso Dati (Team UKYO) proving skillful in taking advantage of the harsh slopes of the winding final section to drop the first selected group of the peloton, nevertheless managing to reach the finish line in fourth position while keeping the gap under 35 seconds.

47 seconds behind Ivanov, his teammate Simone Raccani then outsprinted the group of contenders to secure fifth place, which however was not enough for him to retain the yellow jersey of the general classification leader, which ended up, by virtue of the fifteen-second gap recorded at the line against Dati, on the shoulders of the twenty-three-year-old from Camaiore who now leads the standings with 5 seconds over the rider from Vicenza and 19 seconds over Adne van Engelen (Terengganu Cycling Team).
