After finishing second in yesterday's team time trial, Team UKYO returns to victory at the Tour of Japan 2026, celebrating once again at Shinshu Iida where, in the fourth stage of 118.9 kilometers, an excellent Tommaso Dati completed his personal hat-trick by beating in the decisive three-man sprint Matteo Fabbro (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali) and Nils Sinschek (Li Ning Star).
The increasingly dominant leader of the general classification (standings that now see him commanding with 31" over teammate Federico Iacomoni, 49" over Benjamín Prades and 50" over the other protagonist of today's finale, Fabbro) secured his fifth seasonal victory by breaking away from the group in the company of the Friuli-born former Polti and BORA hansgrohe rider and, once Sinschek was caught (the only courageous survivor of the numerous morning breakaway group), outsprinting his two adventure companions.
Worth noting is the important presence in the substantial fourteen-man attempt (also including the new wearer of the red jersey Genki Yamamoto, who moved to the top of the mountain points classification at the expense of Giacomo Garavaglia) that dominated much of the day of Dati's teammates Simone Raccani and Nahom Zeray: the two, inserted as scouts, indeed allowed the twenty-three-year-old from Camaiore and the rest of Alberto Volpi's team to stay covered in the group and thus save precious energy for a finale in which Nicolò Garibbo and Iacomoni also distinguished themselves by managing to close in the top ten.
Speaking of the finale, all eyes are now on tomorrow's stage which will see the 77 remaining riders face the steep slopes of the race's symbolic climb, that of Mount Fuji, an ascent of 11.5 kilometers at 10.2% average gradient which, despite being in a very short stage of only 62 kilometers, will certainly give the general classification a completely different complexion.
