A new star has emerged in the firmament of women's fast wheels: nineteen-year-old British rider Carys Lloyd claimed what is so far the most important victory of her career at the Ronde van Brugge. The Movistar Team rider finished ahead of Piedmontese Elisa Balsamo (Lidl Trek) and Dutch rider Nienke Veenhoven of Visma Lease a Bike. Fourth place went to fellow Italian sprinter Chiara Consonni of Canyon//SRAM Zondacrypto.
The women's race was also characterized, like yesterday's men's race, by several crashes, the most significant of which occurred 2.4 km from the finish and involved Dutch riders Kool and Ton, British riders Elynor Backstedt and Couzens, and Austrian rider Schweinberger, with the secondary effect of disrupting the work of many lead-out trains ahead of the sprint.
