Every year on January 1st, the annual report on New Year's Eve fireworks accidents arrives punctually, and this time the cycling world is also involved.
On New Year's Eve, a teenager lost his hand due to the explosion of an initially unexploded firecracker: a 16-year-old boy was severely mutilated while handling pyrotechnic material near the former Forte di Sedegliano. The explosion - as reported by TeleFriuli - occurred shortly after midnight, making it impossible to save the limb, despite the prompt rescue intervention and urgent transfer to Pordenone hospital.
The victim is a young man from Cinto Caomaggiore, in the province of Venice, a promising cyclist. The boy had attended a party in Pantianicco, and around midnight, he had decided to move with two friends to a private field to set off some fireworks. A choice that proved fatal.
