He had hidden the pistol, with the red cap removed, under the car's upholstery and hoped to have gotten away with it, but the video that a crew was filming at that exact point to document the work of the Padovani team riders - as Alessandro Petacchi explained in our podcast interview - cost him dearly.
The Carabinieri of the Caprino Veronese Company have indeed identified the alleged perpetrator of the incident that occurred last Sunday in Peri (Verona), when a group of Padovani team cyclists was targeted with gunfire on the road.
According to the reconstruction by law enforcement, it involves a 25-year-old local resident who, while driving his BMW and overtaking the cyclists on SS12 of the Abetone and Brenner, allegedly drew a pistol and fired two blank shots in their direction. The gesture would be attributable to trivial reasons related to road maneuver disputes.
The young man is under investigation for aggravated threats, carrying weapons or offensive objects, and dangerous explosions.
