Many events, growing numbers accompanied by participant satisfaction: for Valchiavenna on two wheels, 2025 was another record year. Cycle tourism, which the entire valley decisively focused on years ago, is proving to be a great attraction and an extraordinary promotional vehicle. The perfect organization, routes, services, and stunning landscapes have attracted over one hundred thousand cycling enthusiasts this year, who found Valchiavenna to be the ideal destination for practicing their favorite sporting discipline.
The Valchiavenna cycle path, in which the Mountain Community and Municipalities have invested in recent years, both in services and safety, recorded the passage of 90,000 cyclists, almost 8% more than last year, and over 175,000 pedestrians.
On Spluga Pass, the increase was even more marked: 20,000 passages, 53% more year-on-year, a third of which, 7,500, thanks to Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina, which grew by an incredible 963%. Participation in Spluga da capogiro remained at 2024 levels, negatively influenced by bad weather.
The Valchiavenna Tourist Consortium is satisfied with the positive, unexpectedly large outcome of Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina Passo dello Spluga bike day, promoted for the first time in collaboration with neighboring Swiss regions after years of work. With the closure of the Swiss side as well, cyclists could safely pedal to reach the pass from both sides. "It's not simple to ban car traffic on roads, even more so when routes connecting two countries are involved," highlights Tourist Consortium Director Filippo Pighetti, "but the result achieved with Spluga was stunning and once again confirmed the enormous potential of this tourist proposal. Cycle tourism has seen great development in recent years, and growth continues: intercepting people looking for beautiful and well-served routes is our goal. We do this with a dedicated offering, with many events between spring, summer, and autumn, to attract cycle tourists. The clearly growing numbers reward the joint effort of the Valchiavenna Mountain Community and Municipalities, who have created functional and impactful cycle and pedestrian paths in green areas, and our commitment as a Tourist Consortium in organizing events and promotional actions. We are already preparing for 2026, and there could be no better stimulus for us to continue our work."
Numbers doubled for Valchiavenna Gravel Escape, the most important gravel event in Sondrio province: over 550 participants across three lengths, 50 children in kids rides. A event for everyone, a hymn to sport, sharing, and inclusion, fun and with a social purpose, conceived and organized by the Tourist Consortium, in collaboration with U.S. Chiavennese and a group of volunteers, who are already preparing for the third edition, scheduled for May 9-10, 2026: registrations open tomorrow, Friday, December 19. 2025 marked the debut of the Alpe Motta Uphill Race, the final stage of the Valtellina Race Series, the event that combines competition and tourism, with the awards ceremony for provincial amateur champions.
The Tour de Suisse passage was the great sporting event of the year in Valchiavenna with the Heiden-Piuro stage: an absolute first for extraordinary international visibility. A television reach of 428 million, 2.8 million media contacts, with the greatest interest recorded in Switzerland, France, and Germany.
