False start for the Tour de France EFGH Singapore Criterium. A violent storm that hit the Asian city-state in the afternoon forced the organizers to cancel the first of the two scheduled events, the 2.4 km team time trial designed around Marina Bay.

The decision, which came just minutes before the official start of the race, was inevitable after the enormous amount of water that fell in just a few minutes made the roads impassable and unsuitable for any type of competition.

It remains to be seen whether, with an improvement in weather conditions, the 60-kilometer road race with start set for 4:30 pm local time (9:30 am Italian time) will take place as scheduled.

UPDATE AT 4:20 PM. The wait has borne fruit and, with the rain subsiding, the road race will be held following the pre-established time schedule.
