Caja Rural-Alea continues to provide young talents to the first team of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA. Gorka Corres (2005) from Vitoria becomes the third cyclist from the development team to follow this path this season, after Frenchman Ellande Larronde and Navarrese Iker Villar.
The Basque cyclist, after just two seasons in the Under 23 category, has been able to showcase his qualities and abilities by collecting seven victories in this short period: two last year and five during 2025, all obtained in one-day races in the Basque calendar.
That innate ability to win has allowed him to take an additional step forward in his career and join a long list of professionals who grew up in Caja Rural's elite and U23 teams, which now reaches 140 with him. Corres, who started the year practicing cyclocross and won bronze in the U23 race at the Spanish Championships, debuted with his 2025 record at Ereño, before showing good consistency at the Vuelta a Extremadura, finishing fourth. His subsequent victory came in Amorebieta, in April, when he was able to race at the Vuelta an Asturias with professionals with the national team. He was also crowned Basque Country U23 champion in Segura. After finishing sixth in the tough national road race in Granada, Gorka obtained two more victories during the summer in Gatzaga and Gernika, along with several podiums in Barambio, Alsasua, and Ataun.
After recently debuting as a stagiaire at Paris-Chauny, he will conclude his season next Saturday, returning to race for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA at the Tour de Vendée.
What does this change mean to you?
"Besides realizing a dream, this change means a new challenge for the coming years and the ambition to improve as a rider. It's also a great opportunity to do so with the green jersey. Of course, it's the best possible reward and recognition for all the hard work done in the past".
How would you describe yourself as a cyclist for those who don't know you?
"I'm a complete cyclist, with few weak points, and that's why the races that suit me best are those that are decided by elimination".
What goals do you set for yourself for your first year as a professional?
"My main goal for next year is to continue progressing and work to find a better version of myself. I think this mentality can help me adapt well to the category".
