On paper, they claim not to be targeting the general classification, but Sd Worx Pro Time will line up at the Giro Women, scheduled from July 6th to 13th, with a true squadron that could literally dominate on every type of terrain. The Dutch-based team is coming off a long training camp in Livigno, aimed at preparing themselves best for the Tour de France that Lotte Kopecky absolutely wants to win; the world champion has repeatedly stated that she has trained hard for what is the big challenge of her season, but first there's the Giro and so the question comes naturally: will it be a simple training or will someone try to aim for the maximum prize? Last year, the world champion had also arrived in Italy simply to prepare for the Olympic Games, but we all know how that ended: second in the general classification behind Elisa Longo Borghini.
Anna Van Der Breggen makes her grand return to the pink race after 4 years of absence, in 2021 she had closed her career as a true dominator and we all know very well that the Giro is one of her favorite races; while for the Tour she will certainly be at the service of Lotte Kopecky, in Italy she could take on the role of captain and go in search of her fifth pink jersey. From the beginning of the season, she has been cautious with her statements, but at the Vuelta she scored a victory and a third place in the general classification, demonstrating that she still knows how to do it. After all, Anna's statistics speak quite clearly: in her last 7 participations in the Giro, she never finished off the podium. If Van Der Breggen will truly be the designated captain, world champion Lotte Kopecky could be a second leader, but also a free rider in practically every type of stage. Who is certainly looking for victories is Lorena Wiebes, in 2025 the current European champion has already reached 11 successes including Sanremo and is practically unbeatable in sprints; given her evolution in recent years, she will be a truly challenging opponent even in hilly stages.
Swiss Steffi Haberlin and New Zealander Mikayla Harvey will play a very similar role in the Sd Worx selection. Both are very good climbers and could support the captains in the toughest stages, but also ignite the race by launching some breakaways. Completing the selection of the Belgian team will be two Italian athletes who for years have been considered fundamental figures within the team. Barbara Guarischi will have the task of guiding Lorena Wiebes in sprints, currently the rider from Lecco is the best lead out around and with the European champion forms a truly unbeatable pair. Elena Cecchini instead will have the delicate role of team strategist given her great experience in reading the race, thanks to her precious work she also built Anna Van Der Breggen's last Giro victory and could aim for a great comeback.
