CAPANNORI VELODROME, THE PROPOSAL HAS ALREADY CROSSED BORDERS...

The idea is gaining traction and starting to cross Lucca's and regional borders. The Segromigno velodrome, which could be built on private land owned by entrepreneur Ivano Fanini, was discussed during the Champion's League track races organized by UCI, International Cycling Union, and reported by Rai Sport.
Commentator Francesco Pancani mentioned Capannori and the potential structure in the Lucca Province. Experts then highlighted that there are various tracks, such as 180-meter ones that would be perfect, like the one in Saint Quentin, Paris.
The presence of hotels in the area to host athletes during competitions is also crucial, and such accommodations exist in Capannori. In short, people are starting to talk about this facility at higher levels.
Let's not forget the endorsements from various figures like Dagnoni (Italian bicycle sports president), Villa (National Track Team Coach) and many others. With the site visit to Ivano Fanini's private land in Segromigno by councilors Davide Del Carlo and Serena Frediani, the project is moving to a more operational and concrete phase.
It involves 125,000 square meters of agricultural land, so even if Fanini's plots are not sufficient, expropriation is possible. In that area, there's even a road circling the fields: access is from Viale Europa, with another entrance from Via Bocchi. There are parking spaces. Now, efforts must be made to secure PNRR resources (an investment ranging between 20 and 25 million euros), which the Municipality will need to do. There are no nearby residential buildings or commercial properties. Translation: fewer difficulties in managing the operation. And most of the land is being made available by Fanini himself. The area is okay, close to infrastructure, but not within inhabited centers.
This facility could represent a turning point for Lucchesia, creating economic spin-off (with potential for shops and businesses). The only similar structure currently in Italy is in Montichiari, Brescia. The Capannori velodrome would be a reference point for Central and Southern Italy. With the function of allowing young people to practice cycling safely, avoiding traffic and its dangers. Next steps: project development and resource hunting.
