«Un risultato straordinario - ha detto SuperMario a fine corsa - che credo non abbia eguali nella storia del ciclismo. Se fosse stata una volata pulita, avrei potuto battere Boonen, purtroppo è successo di tutto ma va bene osì. Mi sono superato ma non sono sorpreso, parola di Cipollini». Cambio al comando della classifica generale: grazie al gioco degli abbuoni lo statunitense Tyler Farrar ha strappato per un secondo la maglia di leader allo svizzero Fabian Cancellara.
